Structure and appointment

Within the Department of Health and Human Services. The Director is appointed by the President, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, and also serves as Administrator of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. The Senate-confirmation requirement was added by Pub. L. 117-328 § 2101(a) (Dec. 29, 2022).
